Training Strategy
 
Tim Schultheis: Head Coach
Tim Schultheis, founder of the Gurnee Judo Club, is committed to creating an enjoyable educational environment that will develop long-term players with the desire to win. Coach Schultheis has been training in the martial arts for more than 30 years. He currently holds a 3rd degree black belt in Judo and 2nd degree black belt in Isshinryu Karate. He is a registered black belt with the U.S. Judo Association, U.S. Judo Inc., and U.S. Judo Federation. He is also a certified Judo Coach and a certified hand-to-hand combat trainer by the U.S. Special Forces, Fort Bragg, N.C. He has won numerous Judo and Karate competitions in the Midwest, Texas, North Carolina, California, and nationally. He was the gold medallist at the 2001 U.S. Armed Forces Nationals.

Don Bordeau: Assistant Coach
Don Bordeau, an original member of the GJC, has trained in the martial arts for more than 10 years. Currently, he holds a 2nd degree black belt in Judo and 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Don is a certified Judo Coach and Nationally Certified Judo Referee through the U.S. Judo Association and U.S. Judo, Inc. He firmly believes in the holistic impacts of Judo on personal health and fitness; Don strives for a GJC environment/experience that provides a family atmosphere and fosters personal growth.

Frank Oliveri: Assistant Coach
Frank Oliveri has trained in Judo for over 20 years. He is a 2nd degree black belt and is registered with the U.S. Judo Association and U.S. Judo, Inc. He is also a 1st degree black belt in Iaido (the Art of Drawing the Sword) and has practiced kendo. Frank is a certified Judo Coach and National Judo Referee, and is committed to instilling the values of "Mutual Welfare and Benefit for All" and "Maximum Efficiency in the Use of Mind and Body" when teaching and coaching.
