Nicki, Tim & Robby Schultheis





Tim Schultheis: Head Coach

Founder of the Gurnee Judo Club, he is committed to creating an enjoyable training environment for athletes to reach their potential. Coach Schultheis has been studying the martial arts for more than 40 years, starting at nine years-old.  He currently holds a 4th degree black belt in Judo and 2nd degree black belt in Isshinryu Karate.  He is a registered black belt and certified coach with the USA Judo (U.S. Olympic Committee governing body).  After graduating from Butler University and the Army R.O.T.C program, he spent 22 years on active duty.  He also attained his MBA from Syracuse University.  He retired as a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and was a graduate of Airborne, Jumpmaster and Ranger Schools.  He is a certified hand-to-hand combat trainer by the U.S. Special Forces.  He has won numerous Judo and Karate competitions in the Midwest, Texas, North Carolina, California, and nationally. He was a gold medalist at the 2001 & 2002 U.S. Armed Forces National Championship and Silver Medalist at the USA Judo 2002 Masters Championship.





Nicki Schultheis:  Assistant Coach

Co-founder of the Gurnee Judo Club, she is currently in graduate school and will receive her Masters of Art in Teaching and Illinois Teaching Certificate in May 2013.  She holds a Bachelors Degree in Spanish for Teachers from State University of New York, Albany.  She is fluent in both English and Spanish.  A 2007 Warren Township High School graduate, Nicki recommends that all school-aged children enroll in a good judo program in order to develop their physical fitness, coordination and self-confidence.  A 2nd degree black belt, certified coach and regional-referee by USA Judo, Nicki is one of the most accomplished female competitors ever from Illinois:

Robby Judo



Robby Schultheis:  Assistant Coach

Co-founder of the Gurnee Judo Club, he is currently in an undergraduate Chemical Engineering student and NCAA wrestler at Colorado School of Mines.  He is also an active-roster member at the Olympic Training Centers in Colorado Springs.  A 2010 Warren Township High School graduate, Robby encourages judo athletes to join their middle and high school wrestling teams, because judo is so similar.  He has had great success competing and training other athletes on how to make judo techniques work in wrestling.  A 1st degree black belt and certified coach, Robby is one of the most accomplished judo competitors ever from Illinois:
